Data Portraits: Turning Team Data into Personal Stories
How can you transform internal data into something fun, meaningful, and memorable for your team? At Graphext, we found the answer with Data Portraits, a creative project that turned personal insights into visual identities for every team member.
It all started with a Typeform questionnaire. Every team member answered questions designed to reveal their interests, strengths, and fun facts. The goal was simple: collect a dataset that could be used to create personalized visual representations and strengthen team connections.
From the responses, we analyzed patterns and identified the most significant variables that connected people. This data became the foundation for a set of creative assets. Each team member received a custom-designed sticker and a personalized mug featuring their unique data portrait.
To take the idea further, we created a large poster showcasing a network graph where connections between team members were grouped by affinity. The graph highlighted clusters based on shared variables, creating a visual map of relationships within the team.
This project went beyond a simple team-building exercise. It was an opportunity to humanize data and turn it into something tangible that everyone could relate to. The personalized items became keepsakes that reflected individuality while celebrating belonging.
The poster became a centerpiece in the office and the mugs a part of everyday life. Together, they were a daily reminder of how data can tell stories that strengthen teams.
