Figma Make-a-thon: Designing with AI

Figma Make-a-thon: Designing with AI

I recently had the opportunity to participate in the Make-a-thon organized by Friends of Figma Zurich. The event was centered around experimenting with Figma Make and exploring how designers can integrate AI into their workflow as a creative partner. It was an incredible experience to see firsthand how AI can enhance the design process and help turn abstract ideas into functional prototypes in a very short amount of time.

During the weekend, I worked with a talented team on a project called Sounds of a City. We built an interactive audio experience designed to help people reconnect with places they miss by layering soundscapes from different parts of the world. Our goal was to explore how AI-powered sound design could reduce homesickness and strengthen emotional connections to home.

The process led us to some significant reflections regarding design ethics. As we envisioned a community feature for sharing personal audio, we had to consider how to moderate emotional content and prevent misuse. It served as a vital reminder that when we design for connection using new technologies, we must also design for responsibility.

The best part of the event was undoubtedly the community. Connecting with such inspiring people and seeing the diverse ways other teams utilized AI made for a truly memorable weekend.

I have shared some photos from the event below to capture the collaborative energy and the work we produced during the session.
