Concept
Australian Rules football, also known as Australian rules or footy, is a sport that originated in Australia in the 19th century. It is predominantly played in Australia, where the only professional league in the world, the Australian Football League (AFL), is based.
This personal project is aimed at Spanish readers with the intention of introducing them to this unique sport. In Spain, there is very little awareness of the lifestyle and sports played in the antipodes.
Objective
The main goal of this project was to raise awareness and generate interest in Australian Rules football among Spanish readers. Given the limited knowledge of this sport in Spain, the objective was to create informative and engaging content that highlights the key aspects of footy. This was achieved through both printed and digital formats, catering to different consumption habits.
My Role
I was responsible for every aspect of this project, from initial concept to final execution. This included conducting research, designing both the printed and digital versions, and ensuring that the content was engaging and accessible. I handled everything from idea generation to research, design, and development of both formats. This project allowed me to combine my passion for design with my interest in sports, creating a piece that educates and inspires curiosity about Australian Rules football.
Process
The project began with comprehensive research on Australian Rules football, focusing on its history, rules, and cultural significance in Australia. A particular emphasis was placed on the initiative to promote women's footy, highlighting the growing presence and impact of female athletes in the sport.
I created detailed sketches for illustrations to visually explain different rules and gameplay scenarios. These sketches were crucial for translating complex rules into easy-to-understand visuals.
The printed version was designed in a double-page newspaper format, providing an extensive overview with more detailed information than the digital version. This format allowed for a richer and more immersive experience, with ample space for detailed explanations and illustrations.
For the digital version, I focused on creating a responsive design that would adapt to various screen sizes, ensuring accessibility on all devices. This version summarized the most essential and interesting aspects of the sport, making it easy for mobile users to understand and appreciate Australian Rules football. The layout and composition were carefully designed to ensure readability and engagement across different formats.
Deliverables
The project resulted in two main deliverables:
- Printed Version: A comprehensive, informative piece intended to educate Spanish readers about Australian Rules football. It included detailed explanations, historical context, and engaging visuals.
- Digital Version: A streamlined, mobile-friendly infographic that summarized the key points from the printed version. This digital version was designed to be accessible on devices with different resolutions, ensuring a broad reach.
- Social Media Microcontent: Created engaging microcontent for social media platforms to further promote the project and reach a wider audience. These posts highlighted interesting facts encouraging more people to learn about and engage with the sport.
