Context
Novartis is a global healthcare company based in Switzerland, focused on developing and manufacturing innovative medicines to improve and extend people's lives. In 2023, Novartis launched a rebranding campaign, reflecting its ongoing commitment to innovation and transformation in the healthcare field. This rebranding included a visual update and a renewal of its mission and corporate values, aligning with its vision to be a leader in health and wellness solutions for future generations.
Objective
My objective was to create a design system for data visualization, based on the new guidelines provided by the Novartis Brand Lab team. This design system was tailored to our needs across all types of graphics, as well as defining a new color palette based on principles of visual perception to enhance data comprehension.
My Role
As a senior designer, I was responsible for creating and documenting the new design system. I also trained the design team and other departments on its utilization, ensuring best practices were followed. This involved hands-on workshops and creating comprehensive guidelines to ensure consistent application of the new visual standards across all data visualizations.
Deliverables
- Creation of a new color palette, an extension of 25 colors based on the 5 root colors of the company's new visual identity
- Documentation of the different visualizations most frequently used, detailing how and when to use them
- Development of a comprehensive design system for data visualization
